Mother-of-Pearl & Abalone

Both mother-of-pearl and abalone let us take a deep dive into the ocean and embrace
our inner mermaid.  Although they both come from seashells, abalone refers to the shell
 itself, while mother-of-pearl refers to the layer of nacre that a pearl was attached to
while forming within the shell. 

Mother-of-pearl is sometimes used as a birthstone for those born in the month of June, 
and it is also the gemstone that is traditionally given on the first wedding anniversary.
