How to find the perfect necklace size
Necklace length is a personal preference, and is usually based on a person's stature and what they want to wear it with. Here are the most common lengths for necklaces, and approximately how far down from the neck they lay.

How to Choose a Necklace Length
Choosing a necklace length depends on where you want the the bottom of the necklace to lay, and sometimes what you plan to wear the necklace with.
Collar Necklace (12-14 inches)
A collar necklace sits right against the base of the neck and fits snugly. It calls attention to both the neck and the face, and pairs well with off-the-shoulder tops and boat necklines.
Choker (14-16 inches)
A choker necklace sits at the base of the throat, calling attention to the collarbones. This necklace length is very versatile and pairs well with any open neckline.
Princess (17-19 inches)
A princess necklace is the most common, versatile, and flattering, necklace length. It is perfect for everyday wear as it sits perfectly at the collarbone, and is the length most often worn with pendants. Princess necklaces are a staple in any jewelry collection as it can be worn with any neckline and for any occasion.
Matinee (20-24 inches)
Matinee necklaces generally sit below the collarbone. They pair well with higher necklines, and are great options to layer with shorter length necklace styles. Many large pendants are paired with matinee length necklace chains, and it is a common length for large statement necklaces.
Opera (28-34 inches)
An opera length necklace sits right at the breastbone (center of the chest) or right below the bustline. These necklaces pair well with high necklines, formal evening wear and layered with shorter length necklaces like a princess length (17-19 inches) or a matinee length necklace (20-24 inches.) Depending upon its style, it can be worn long as a single dramatic strand, doubled over to create a multi-layered choker or princess-length look, or tied in a in a single overhand knot near the chest for a vintage look.

How to Determine the Necklace Length You Need
There are a couple of simple ways to find out what necklace length to order.
1 - Measure an Existing Necklace Who's Lenth You Like
Lay the necklace on a straight, flat surface, making sure it has no kinks, and measure it with a ruler from end to end, including the clasp.
2- Use a Flexible Measuring Tape or Piece of String
Wrap the tape or string around your neck, positioning it where you want the necklace to rest. Mark the point where the ends meet and then lay flat and measure with a ruler.
Frequently Asked Questions About Necklace Measurements
Measure as you would using one of the suggestions mentioned above to find your preferred chain length. Measure your pendant's size and consider its weight. Longer larger pendants will require a longer necklace chain length so that the pendant lays comfortably and correctly. Heavier pendants will generally require a slightly shorter necklace chain due to their weight weighing down the chain.
For a choker style, measure comfortably but snugly at the base of the neck.
For longer necklace styles like opera or rope, hold a piece of string or measuring tape at the point where you would like the bottom of the necklace to lay, and then wrap the string or tape around your neck and back down to that spot. Mark it, and measure the length you created with a ruler.
